Lappet-faced vulture Live Cam
Watch live lappet-faced vultures in an Israeli nature reserve with Tabi.cam. The lappet-faced vulture is a critically endangered species, and in fact, this is the last known pair in Israel! The lappet-faced vulture is a huge species having the longest and largest wings. The lappet-faced vulture has an important role in carcasses because they have stronger beaks that tear through tough hides and knotty muscles of large mammals than the other vultures cannot penetrate. In Israel, for example, because there is no lappet-faced vulture in the wild, griffon vultures have difficulty opening carcasses. This is why rangers in the vulture feeding stations open up carcasses. Lappet-faced vultures are the most powerful and aggressive vultures in Israel, and other vultures will usually leave to the side of a carcass when a lappet-faced vulture once to feed. The Lappet-faced vulture pair is part of a joint project by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, SPNI, and the Israel Electric company. The camera was added and maintained by the Charter Group of Wildlife Ecology (The Shamir Research Institute and the Department of Geography and Environmental Science of the University of Haifa) and funded by a private donor.
